The progressive conservatives shared their plan to boost the province’s tourism industry and how they already have, during a campaign stop in Tracadie on Saturday.
Party leader Blaine Higgs says many tourism operators across the province have benefited from the implementation of the tourism tax credit, particularly in the Acadian Peninsula.
“We’re hearing that many of your local attractions and lodging saw record tourism numbers, despite the impact of COVID-19. Our government understands that tourism is a significant part of the economy, throughout the province and especially in this region,” he says.
Last week, the PCs promised to extend the travel rebate to the end of March, in order for winter tourism operators can benefit from it as much as summer operators did.
If elected, they’ll invest 600 thousand dollars toward ‘La Veloroute’, a cycling trail through the Acadian Peninsula, which will be used for scenic vistas, directional signage and gates, over the next three years.
The Higgs government has already put 2.8 million toward the project which now generates 5 million dollars annually for the area.
