Some New Brunswick students may not have a laptop ready for the start of school on September 8.
High school students in Grades 9 to 12 will need to have their own electronic devices this fall.
If students don’t already have one, low-income families can apply for the laptop subsidy program.
Smartphones will be accepted as a device but are not being enouraged.
Deputy education minister George Daley says about 11,000 devices are available in the school system for those who may need one for a limited time.
With demand growing across North America for laptops in this back-to-school period, reports say some large computer companies are facing shortages.
With many New Brunswick students learning from home on a part-time basis this fall, what does the future hold for snow days?
Daley was asked that question by reporters this week.
“I have to be honest, my focus has been on the pandemic and getting our students back to school in September and I really hope we’re not going to have any snow days in September.”
