The leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party is optimistic facing this snap election period.
Leader Mackenzie Thomason said government investment and social programs are the way out of the current economic situation.
“I think anything that is above what we did last is great, I think that we have an opportunity to win a couple of seats, but we have to make sure that our messaging and our connection with New Brunswickers is there,” he said.
The party will be focusing on a $15 an hour minimum wage, affordable prescription medication, senior care and education for college and university students.
Thomason said the slate of candidates for the party is fairly young in their 20s which is very unique in comparison to the other parties.
He said as a leader, he’ll be talking to people across the province and supporting the candidates in their campaigns.
“I think the fact that we are a young party, as far as our membership and as far as our candidates and as far as our leader, and think the fact that we are pushing the values that not any of the other parties push is something we can really hook onto,” he said.
Thomason said he still finds calling this snap election to be reckless, irresponsible and wholly unnecessary but they’re looking forward to doing their best.
“I would like New Brunswickers to know we are an option, that we are a voice, that we are here to fight for them, and I hope that they give us their support on September 14th.”
