The leader of the New Brunswick NDP says he is not happy with comments made by the Progressive Conservative leader on Clinic 554.
PC leader Blaine Higgs has withheld funding to the clinic, which provides out-of-hospital abortion services and specialized health care to the LGBT+ community.
In a recent interview, Higgs has said anyone who feels the party is out of line can challenge them in court.
“This position discourages people to come to New Brunswick, which does not contribute to population growth,” said Mackenzie Thomason, leader of the NDP, in a news release Tuesday.
“Think of how much money could be invested in the people of New Brunswick rather than spending their time in Court denying services to New Brunswickers.”
In the release, the NDP said they intend to restore funding to the clinic in Fredericton.
“Clinic 554 funding costs $140,000 annually, and yet the [Progressive Conservatives are] going to spend how much fighting a court battle they may not win? The Conservative Party seems to want to show how irresponsible they will be with public spending.”
