The Progressive Conservatives are promising to eliminate single use plastic bags and plastic bottles in the province.
P.C. leader Blaine Higgs says the ban would be phased-in over several years as the economy starts to strengthen.
He intends to hold major producers responsible for plastic and paper waste with big players having to pay for the cost of their packaging.
Glass bottle recycling also needs to improve according to Higgs especially when it comes to pickle jars, jam jars and maple syrup bottles.
The Tories intend to expand a glass recycling pilot program which began in Oromocto last December.
Higgs also says illegal dumping will also be addressed noting how it pollutes our woods and waterways.
Those responsible for tossing mattresses or garbage bags alongside the road will be held accountable said Higgs.
Higgs intends to work with non-profit organizations to help find cleanup projects in their communities.
