New Brunswick’s deputy education minister understands that many parents are still concerned about sending their kids back to class next week.
George Daley says each school in the system has developed individual operational plans based on their community and the facility in which they operate.
“Today marks the release day for all the operational plans for all of our schools. The plans have been developed to help ensure a safe environment for the entire school community within each school. Parents should be able to locate these plans on their respective schools’ websites,” he says.
Daley says the gradual and staggered return to class will allow for more one-on-one time between student and teachers
He says this will help lower their anxiety while ensuring they know and understand the safety protocols in place.
Amid all the uncertainty around back to school, Daley says it’s important to be kind and patient with each other.
“Social media and news report comment boxes have not been an advancement in positive humankind interactions. When I was a school administrator and settling online disputes between students, I always asked ‘if you had sat in front of someone and looked into their eyes, would you have said the same comment you typed’ and in almost every case, the student would say no. I think we can learn a lesson from these students,” he says.
