Saturday saw more than 63,000 New Brunswickers cast a ballot for the 2020 provincial election at advance polling stations.
That’s an increase of 20,000 voters over the first day of advance voting for the 2018 election, when more than 43,500 votes were cast.
Elections NB spokesperson Paul Harpelle said it’s too early to read into the numbers and assume a higher voter turnout is guaranteed.
“It was a perfect sunny day, a long weekend, and also may be the result of our campaign encouraging electors to vote early to help flatten the election curve,” Harpelle wrote in an e-mail to our newsroom.
Tuesday is the last day of advance voting before election day on September 14.
