The Liberals focused on arts and culture Friday as the election campaign comes to a close.
Leader Kevin Vickers said his party would pass a law recognizing the profession of artists if elected.
Vickers said the arts and culture sector has been hit hard by the pandemic and is still struggling.
He noted the widespread closure of theatres is preventing many artists from performing in front of an audience, depriving them of their main source of income.
“By officially recognizing the profession of artist, we will allow this industry to have rights comparable to other professions
and a strong voice to claim those rights,” said Vickers in a news release.
Vickers said the Liberals would also pursue the integration of artists and their works in schools to help promote the profession, and establish a book purchasing policy for New Brunswick bookstores and publishers.
Voters will head to the polls on Monday.
