A man and his three children have been rescued after failing to return from a hike at Mount Carleton Provincial Park.
Police were called around 10 p.m. Thursday after the father and his three children, all under the age of eight, did not return from Mount Sagamook Trail.
Sgt. Martin Janson says weather conditions were worsening when officers arrived as it was rainy, foggy, and the temperatures were plummeting.
Const. Marc-Antoine Babin and Const. Benoit Desjardins started hiking up the slippery trail and located the family around 3 a.m. Friday, he said.
“The family was found together near the top of the trail, but some family members appeared to be suffering from hypothermia,” said Sgt. Janson in a news release.
“As the members carried the children back down the trail, they were met by Cpl. Joe St-Amand who had emergency supplies and blankets to help warm the children.”
Paramedics treated the family at the trailhead around 7 a.m. Friday. All four were taken to the hospital and later released.
