New Brunswick’s Liberal leader has stepped down.
Kevin Vickers came up short in his Miramichi riding, losing to Michelle Conroy of the Peoples Alliance party.
Vickers says, “This election has been very different to the ones we saw in the past. We were able to adapt quickly to these new realities. We stayed positive and ran the best campaign anybody could have ever expected or wanted.”
But during his speech, he admitted that many people are disappointed by the results of the provincial election, and he takes full responsibility, “As a result, I will be resigning as leader of the Liberal party of New Brunswick. Under the leadership of a new Leader, I know that the Liberal party will continue to be a strong voice for all New Brunswickers.”
Vickers says he is grateful to each and every New Brunswicker for supporting him through the campaign, “Thank you for everything you have done and for everything you will continue to do.”
He says he is still hopeful the future of our province will be a bright one, “There is still a lot of work to do to in order to grow our economy, protect our environment and heal the divide between new Brunswickers. I know by working together, we will bring back hope and opportunity for all New Brunswickers in every corner of this beautiful province.”
