A fire at the Crane Mountain Landfill last week is believed to have been started by a flare.
The Fundy Regional Service Commission’s executive Director Marc MacLeod said the small fire occurred Wednesday, and could have been much worse – had staff not acted quickly.
Fires are a major hazard in the landfill industry, often started by flares or batteries.
Residents are reminded not to place those products in garbage or recycling.
The Commission touts Fundy Recycles’ What Goes Where app as a good source for learning how to dispose safely of all household items.
