The candlelight vigil at the Reversing Falls is in the process of becoming an annual event.
Jessica Holly, the founder and organizer of the Bridge of Hope Saint John, says this year is going to be even better than last year.
“I think this event is probably going to be a little smaller than last year, one it’s supposed to rain, but the rain held off last year so hopefully it’ll hold off this year. Also, I believe people are kind of rallied out right now. There’s been a lot of rallies going on for very important movements: she said.
Holly said she’s always been a mental health advocate and this was how she felt she could help.
“Last year we had, I believe it was seven suicides in one week and I was personally touched by one of them I did know her personally and it affected me greatly,” she said.
Holly said mental illness doesn’t go away and it’s part of our makeup so we need to support each other and if she’s able to reach at least one person then it’s worth it.
“Last year I focused on supporting each other, and kind of helping carry each other until we could get people to safe places to help with their mental health. This year I’m going to focus directly at the ones that are suffering right now,” she said.
Holly said the numbers don’t matter because she’s looking for the one person in the crowd who is ready to give up so she can grab their hearts.
