Saint Johners are mourning the passing of Bill Gale, founder of the Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative.
He died Tuesday at the age of 84.
The current leadership of BCAPI, Paulette Hicks and Roxanne Fairweather, shared a statement Thursday on his passing.
In the statement, they described Gale as a “brave yet humble humanitarian” who believed poverty was a serious issue impacting everyone and the future of Saint John and it’s up to us to solve it.
Hicks and Fairweather said he was considered a master at building relationships and convincing people to help and noted Gale helped make Saint John a stronger community with the collective passion to solve a big problem and the know-how to remove the roadblocks that trap families in poverty.
Hicks and Fairweather note many have been touched by Bill’s “magic” and are very grateful he used his skills to compel leaders from business and all sectors to address poverty in Saint John.
Bill Gale’s leadership was recognized and celebrated over the years with the Order of New Brunswick, the YMCA Red Triangle Award, the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and the New Brunswick Day Merit Award.
