Only a few hundred homes and businesses are still without power after Wednesday’s high winds.
NB Power said more nearly 700 customers remained without electricity as of 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
That is down from more than 22,000 customers at the peak of the outages Wednesday afternoon.
More than 370 customers were without power in the Kings/Queens district and just over 10 in Charlotte Southwest.
Estimates on the utility’s website show most customers should have their power restored before midnight.
Marc Belliveau, a spokesperson for NB Power, said just over 100 crews are working to restore power, including nearly 40 contractor crews.
But those crews had their work cut out for them, with hundreds of separate outages reported throughout the province.
Belliveau said current assessments indicate that this was a tree and wires down event, with very little structural damage.
Yesterday’s weather resulted in trees making contact with lines. Crews also dealt with downed power lines. Many customers have been restored and restoration estimates continue to be updated on https://t.co/qyGRAtW91T for those still experiencing an outage.
