The province has provided an update on their expectations with regards to wearing masks in public spaces.
Premier Blaine Higgs is reminding New Brunswickers to always carry a mask with them and to wear it when physical distance can’t be maintained.
He says if residents do not comply, a mandatory mask policy could be implemented as soon as Thursday, Oct. 8.
Higgs says he prefers not to make mask use mandatory in public spaces but knows it may soon be necessary.
“It’s likely something that we will implement. To this point we’ve been successful without that mandatory requirement but we don’t want to take any chances so it’s just another added measure to insist upon it as opposed to right now where we’re recommending that it’s being done,” he says.
He also announced changes to peace officers at the borders.
“While border measure will remain in place for travelers from outside Atlantic provinces, we are planning to suspend the screening of travelers entering New Brunswick from Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia by land,” he says.
Higgs says this will allow them to focus more on what’s happening within the province and how well protocols are being followed.
