“COVID-19 is knocking on our door.”
The chief medical officer of health repeating her message of vigilance in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr. Jennifer Russell urged everyone to do their part by wearing masks and avoiding large gatherings where physical distancing can’t be maintained.
“The sudden rise in new cases in Maine, Quebec, Ontario and elsewhere in the past month shows how quickly the virus can spread. It’s urgent we continue to take precautions to prevent that from happening here,” Russell said.
Russell said everyone wants to maintain our enviable record and no one wants to return to more restrictive measures.
She is pleased New Brunswickers are getting into the habit of wearing a mask and she calls that “encouraging.”

The province offering tips for staying safe during Halloween in a pandemic.
Dr. Jennifer Russell said people handing out treats should be washing their hands between visitors and sanitizing high-touch surfaces like door knobs and railings.
Russell suggested households with vulnerable folks consider posting a sign that says ‘Happy Halloween: No visitors please’.
“You can print out a sign and put it up on your door and you can feel comfortable and safe that you are not putting yourself or others at risk,” Russell said.
Russell also suggested families host a costume parade where trick or treaters can wear their costumes but stay physically distanced.
