A case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at one northern New Brunswick high school.
Sugarloaf Senior High School in Campbellton posted about the case on its Facebook page Thursday evening.
The post, signed by principal Michael O’Toole, said the school will be closed Friday to allow for cleaning and contact tracing.
“We understand you may feel anxious over the coming days,” wrote O’Toole. “Public Health officials will contact you if your child has been in close contact with the confirmed case and will tell you if your child needs to self-isolate. If you are not contacted by Public Health officials, your child can continue to attend school.
O’Toole said no other details, including names, will be released to protect the privacy of students and staff at the school.
“Children and young people look to the adults in their lives to guide them on how to react to worrying and stressful events. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about any anxieties and remind them to treat one another with kindness and respect, in person and on social media,” he said.
Public Health officials announced a case of COVID-19 in the Campbellton region on Thursday involving a person in their 30s.
Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s chief medical officer of health, said the case was still under investigation.
