The MP for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe fully supports access to reproductive health services in New Brunswick.
In her previous career as a social worker, Ginette Petitpas Taylor said she referred a lot of clients to Clinic 554 in Fredericton and they have offered very professional services.
Clinic 554 was the only facility which provided out-of-hospital abortions in the province as well as health services for the LGBTQ community.
After more than a year of struggling to stay afloat, the clinic was recently forced to shut down.
“Accessibility to reproductive health services is a right all women should have in New Brunswick,” Petitpas Taylor noted.
She says the federal government believes the province is breaking the Canada Health Act by not providing abortions outside hospitals.
Petitpas Taylor says Ottawa was going to hold back health care funding to the province but changed its mind amid the pandemic.
The Progressive Conservative government maintains it is providing access to abortions at three public hospitals – two in Moncton and one in Bathurst.
Premier Blaine Higgs has said if any groups feel otherwise, they have every right to take the province to court.
