At least 30 people will be laid off as a result of WestJet’s decision to suspend flights indefinitely to four airports in the Maritimes.
Spokesperson Morgan Bell says eight people from each of the affected airports in Moncton, Fredericton and Charlottetown will be released.
Five others will be cut from the airport in Sydney.
Bell says the employees will be placed on temporary layoff starting on Nov. 2.
Station managers will be placed onto temporary layoff starting Nov. 5.
Bell adds WestJet will continue to evaluate operations in Halifax and St. John’s to determine how employees will be affected by a reduction in services in those communities.
Over 3,300 staff have been laid off from the airline since the pandemic began.
