It took 36 years, but Toronto Police have now identified the killer in a homicide case that involved the death of a nine-year-old girl.
Christine Jessop went missing from her Ontario home in 1984.
Her body was found two months later. She had been stabbed and sexually assaulted.
On Thursday, police revealed that a DNA sample from Jessop’s underwear identified the real man believed to be responsible for her death.
Calvin Hoover would have been 28 years old in 1984.
Police say Hoover was known to Jessop’s family. He died in 2015.
Guy Paul Morin was acquitted in 1995, after serving around 10 years in prison for Jessop’s murder.
In a statement, police Chief Jim Ramer said, there is nothing that can reverse the tragic events of 36 years ago, but it takes them a major step forward in the efforts to bring justice to Jessop’s family.
