The Canadian Mental Health Association of New Brunswick is drawing attention to a disorder many people may begin feeling at this time of year.
Owner of Coverdale Counselling and Consulting Kerri Gaskin-Fowler says Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, causes some individuals to feel depressed when seasons change.
She says some people simply need more light to function normally because the sun sets earlier and rises later at this time of year that results in less daylight.
“Getting more natural light. Go outside at midday when the sun is at its peak, we try to avoid this in the summer but in the winter this is critical. Get outside when it is bright out. Wear sunglasses a little less, if it is possible to do so safely, obviously we don’t want snow blindness if its the dead of winter,” she says.
