The travel industry could take years to recover from the devastating impacts of COVID-19.
Some New Brunswickers hoping to escape part of the upcoming winter are now cancelling trips to sunshine destinations.
A Moncton area travel agent says the pandemic’s 14-day self-isolation period upon returning home is having a big impact.
Lynn Gaudet, an outside sales agent with The Travel Store, says clients that have cancelled must now wait for credits from the various airlines and travel providers.
“Most of them are waiting to see… especially about the 14-day quarantine, if that is still going to be in effect in February, March, April of next year.”
Gaudet says a typical working person or family would not be able to take three weeks off to enjoy a week-long vacation in the Caribbean.
The idea of expanding the Atlantic Travel Bubble to include Cuba has been floated recently by some in the industry.
Gaudet believes it’s a great idea but she adds if only a couple of isolated resorts on the island are included, your options will definitely be limited.
