The opposition critic for La Francophonie and the Official Languages Act says the provincial government is nearing the deadline for the Official Languages Act review.
Benoit Bourque is the MLA for Kent South, and he says Blaine Higgs’ government needs to begin soon the review on the Official Languages Act, due December 2021.
The act is mandated for review every ten years, but Bourque points out that the last review, conducted by David Alward’s government took two years to complete.
In a news release, Bourque said he’s concerned to see the review has not yet begun.
“I think Premier Higgs needs to show that he recognizes the importance of this process and is not trying to avoid his responsibilities,” Bourque said.
The Kent South MLA is also calling for the PC government to create a standing committee on official languages.
