Sport and recreation organizations in New Brunswick struggling financially from the pandemic are now getting some help.
A total of $2.7 million has been made available to those organizations through a partnership with Sport Canada.
Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace says this will provide some certainty of funding to ensure they can remain viable through this difficult time.
“We understand the challenges that the sector has been facing in trying to adapt to the realities caused by the pandemic,” said Wallace in a news release. “Enormous efforts have been made across the province by many volunteers to provide safe opportunities to return to play.”
The fund provides short-term financial relief that will help organizations maintain jobs, support business continuity, and provide short-term operational viability.
More than $750,000 had been distributed to nearly 60 local and provincial organizations as of Oct. 1, according to the province.
The deadline to apply for the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Sport Organizations is Jan. 22.
