The coronavirus pandemic has decimated the travel industry worldwide and experts say it could take a long time to recover.
Lynn Gaudet with the Travel Store has worked in the industry for many years and notes how SARS and 9/11 don’t even compare to COVID-19.
“But this is like a moving target. We don’t where it’s going and we don’t know when it’s going to end. So this has been a dreadful situation for airlines and travel agencies.”
As a travel agent, she sides with passengers who want their money back but she also understands the airlines still have costs coming in.
With airlines continually axing flights, Gaudet adds those planes have to be parked somewhere.
She adds our wet, cold climate is not suitable so planes are typically moved to a place with a dry, warm climate such as Arizona.
Once a vaccine is found or whenever it’s considered safe to travel again, Gaudet feels confident that many cancelled flights will return.
