The adoption process has not been slowing down despite the pandemic according to the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation.
Executive director Suzanne Kingston is urging anyone thinking about adoption to not allow COVID-19 to hold them back.
“It’s not like you call one day and say I want to adopt and then you have a child. For anyone who is part of the adoption community, it’s a long process for a lot of reasons.”
The Department of Social Development is now offering some of its pre-adoption training online.
Kingston says child placements have been occurring since the lockdown in March.
But she adds it’s not clear yet if the rates are the same as they were before the pandemic began.
