The Progressive Conservative party went to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court last Thursday to find out how much the province is paying Bay Ferries to operate the CAT.
Party leader Tim Houston says that Bay Ferries CEO, Mark MacDonald, told the court that the information Houston is looking for could be harmful to his company if it is made public.
Houston says they have waited 4 years to get to this point.
“We have the freedom to know where our tax money goes,” he began. “That’s the rule. So any time you want to make an exception to that rule, there’s a high standard. The onus was on them to show that that standard has been reached. The judge will decide if it’s been reached or not. ”
Houston says he doesn’t believe that Bay Ferries produced any information to support that.
“I still believe that this is information that the taxpayers have a right to know,” he re-affirmed. “I still firmly believe that, and it’s my hope and expectation that the judge agrees.”
Houston says that the PC’s will return to court on November 19 for closing arguments.
