Saying Canadians want climate action now, the prime minister has introduced a new climate change bill.
Justin Trudeau explains the goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2050 noting “This is a fundamental step in our strategy to build a strong resilient economy that works for everyone.”
Trudeau stresses Bill C-12 will mean not having to choose between clean air and good jobs.
“The argument that protecting the environment and growing the economy don’t go hand in hand is an old and failed way of seeing things,” asserts the prime minister.
The legislation sets out goals that will be achieved in stages with the first set of targets set for the end of the decade.
Details of the plan are expected to be rolled out in the coming days.
