The orange level of the province’s COVID-19 recovery plan, which is now in effect in the Saint John (Zone 2) and Moncton (Zone 1) health regions, comes with a number of new rules.
As we first told you last week, you are now required to wear masks in all outdoor public places, in addition to indoor public places.
Single-household bubbles must be maintained, but they can be extended to caregivers or an immediate family member needing support.
Outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people are allowed but everyone taking part must maintain physical distancing.
You can find more details on the Government of New Brunswick’s website.
Don Darling, the mayor of Saint John, said it is important for communities to work together to slow the spread of the virus.
“The provincial government has put the Mandatory Order in effect to keep us safe and support recovery efforts,” said Darling in a statement. “Failure to comply with the Order puts public health at risk, and will have significant impacts on our path to recovery.”
“My hope is that everyone in our city and neighbouring communities will do all they can to keep themselves and each other healthy and well so that we can recover back to the yellow level as quickly as possible.”
Numerous public safety and law enforcement agencies are involved in enforcement efforts throughout Zones 1 and 2.
Fines for violating the new rules range from nearly $300 for individuals to more than $10,000 for businesses.
There was an increased presence of officers in uptown Saint John over the weekend ensuring people were following the rules.
Several people were also reportedly given tickets outside of retailers in different parts of the city.
