The Saint John Community Christmas Exchange got an early start coordinating the need for families this holiday season expecting a bigger need due to the pandemic.
Work begins every October coordinating information and the exchange opened on November 2nd.
Volunteers work with churches and other organizations to avoid duplication and ensure donations help as many people as possible.
Volunteer Kathleen Morris said they had about 2000 families last year.
“The churches look after a lot of them. They look after as many as they can. Some churches look after 100 families, some look after 50, some look after 20. They look after the amount that they can do,” Morris said.
Morris has been a volunteer with Saint John Community Christmas Exchange for over 20 years and while they enough people right now, any volunteers can call in to see if that changes.
The deadline for submitting names is December 11th.
