Governor General Julie Payette announced 114 new appointments to the Order of Canada on Friday, which includes two New Brunswickers.
Michel Doucet of Dieppe is being honoured for dedicating his life to ensuring respect for French as an official language and for advocating for language rights.
Lorio Roy of Saint-Laurent Nord is being recognized for his ongoing commitment to improving post-secondary education and for his dedication to the Acadian community.
Former Olympic swimmer Mark Tewksbury is also one of the latest additions to the Order of Canada.
The governor general is recognizing him both for his athletic achievements and his work toward equity, inclusion and human rights.
Fellow Olympians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are also new members in honour of their figure skating performance and their work to inspire the next generation of skaters.
The new member list includes eight Companions, 21 Officers and 85 Members, including one Honorary Member. The new appointees will be invited to accept their insignia at a future ceremony.
Since 1967, more than 7,000 people have been invested into the Order of Canada — one of the country’s highest civilian honours.
