The Catholic Church has officially welcomed 13 new Cardinals.
The ceremony was held this morning at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Pope Francis released the list in late October, which included a number of firsts for the church.
They include Washington’s Wilson Gregory, the first Black American man to get the honour. They also include Rwanda’s first Cardinal, the archbishop of Kigali, Antoine Kambanda. Meanwhile Cardinal-designate Cornelius Sim is the first Cardinal from Brunei.
Because of the pandemic, attendance was severely restricted and the ceremony was livestreamed, with two of the appointees attending virtually.
