Saint John’s mayor was ‘disappointed’ by the news that Air Canada would suspend all flights into the Saint John Airport on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the city, Don Darling said they would now work to help restore service as quickly as possible.
“We are disappointed to hear of today’s announcement from Air Canada and will make every effort to engage with the airline, our federal and provincial governments and regional stakeholders to identify potential solutions to restore service as quickly as possible,” Darling’s statement reads.
The mayor said the airport is a ‘key gateway’ for residents, businesses and visitors, and its operation is important to the local economy.
The airport brings in $90 million annually and supports 650 jobs in the region, he said.
