New Brunswick chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell is very pleased by the progress in the Saint John region (Zone 2) and as a result, Zone 2 will return to the Yellow level of pandemic recovery at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Dr. Russell says while the outbreak in Zone 2 is not completely over, new case growth has slowed significantly and she adds all cases in Zone 2 are linked to a Zone 1 case which is considered to be community transmission.
At the Parkland Saint John seniors facility, Dr. Russell says testing is continuing and to date there have been 18 confirmed cases – 11 residents, 6 employees and 1 off-site worker.
Public Health reported four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today (December 10) and all are self-isolating and under investigation:
The Edmundston region Zone 4 has three cases:
- one individual 20-29
- one individual 30-39
- one individual 40-49
The Saint John region Zone 2 has one case:
- one individual 30-39
Meantime, Public Health and the Vitalite Health Network are investigating after an outbreak has been declared at the Edmundston Regional Hospital.
“Outbreaks are a stark reminder this virus is still present in New Brunswick and we need to be extremely cautious,” said Dr. Russell.
The cases related to this outbreak include three health-care workers and three COVID-19 admitted patients.
All hospital visitations except for palliative care, maternity and pediatrics, have been suspended until further notice and only urgent cases are being handled at the emergency department.
New Brunswick now has 75 active cases with four people in hospital including three in the intensive care unit.
