St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation hopes to bring some light and hope to Saint John this holiday season.
The hospital foundation has launched a new fundraising initiative called Lights of Hope.
“We felt that this year was a particularly significant year to start the campaign where we’re all struggling with COVID-19 and could use a little bit of light and hope in our lives,” said Laurie Flood, executive director of the foundation.
For every $250 raised between now and Christmas, the foundation will light a candle in one of the hospital’s 200 windows.
The goal is to raise $50,000 and have a candle in each window of the uptown Saint John hospital.
“I don’t know about you, but when I come into town, St. Joe’s has always been that beacon,” said Flood. “I’m pretty excited to see all of the lights come Christmas time. I think it’s going to be extraordinary.”
Flood said the idea came from an initiative this summer when they put hearts in all of the windows.
Our patients made the hearts, put them in the windows. Our staff made hearts,” she said. “It was just a message to the community that we’re here, that we care about you.”
The money raised through Lights of Hope will help fund critical needs at the hospital, said Flood.
