Saint John based floating artist-run centre Third Space is holding its 2020 Members’ Show and Sale at a new uptown venue while also encouraging holiday shoppers to support local artists during Uptown Sparkles.
“We have a pretty dedicated following of people who are engaged with their activities,” said Third Space Gallery Executive Director Katie Buckley, adding that its annual Members’ Show is normally held on Uptown Sparkles’ singular night of festivities. “Since this year Uptown Sparkles has extended over a couple of weeks, we thought we could do the same thing.”
This year’s show is being held at The Art Warehouse, located at 120 Prince William Street. It features 29 Pieces of art created by 12 artists, who include Nat Cann, Jack Bishop, Christiana Myers, and the gallery’s newest member Ashley Henwood.
“I reached out to Art Warehouse because we had worked with them a little bit before and I know Hazel [Cochran] who owns it, and I was asking if maybe some art on the walls because they already have art hanging,” said Buckley. “We cleared stuff out of the back spot, and we were able to use the make it look like a professional gallery space.”
The exhibition can also be viewed online on Third Space’s website.
Buckley says the gallery has been talking about next year’s exhibition plans, which could be a hybrid model with a celebration held on one night and the exhibition extended for additional days.
“It’s really kind of forced us out of the usual routine, and I like longer things because more people can visit and connect with us,” she added.
The in-person exhibition at The Art Warehouse runs until December 17 with Buckley adding that any purchased artwork would be available for pick up at the conclusion of the exhibition on December 18.
