It’s one giant step for Canada’s mission to send astronauts to the moon.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Navdeep Bains Canada announced has signed a deal with NASA to send a Canadian astronaut in space to orbit the moon in 2023.
“It will be the first mission to carry humans to lunar orbit in over 50 years,” explained the minister.
That was when the NASA Apollo missions were in full gear in the 60s and early 70s.
The mission is expected to be part of an overall plan for Canada to be part of a new international space station, called the Lunar Gateway, which will orbit the moon.
The 2023 mission will not involve landing on the moon.
