Searchers have found the body of a crew member from a missing scallop dragger in the Digby area.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre confirmed the news in a tweet posted late Tuesday evening.
It said the search continues for five others who were on board the Chief William Saulis.
Officials received an emergency signal in the area of Digby Neck just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Debris was spotted around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, including two life rafts washed ashore.
Three military aircraft and three Canadian Coast Guard vessels have been tasked with searching the area, and local fishers have also joined the search. Ground Search and Rescue members have also been searching from shore.
Officials said Tuesday that poor weather was hampering their search.
Unfortunately, this evening, one individual was found deceased. The next of kin have been notified.
Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the family. The search continues for the remaining individuals.— HfxJRCC_CCCOS (@hfxjrcc) December 16, 2020
