Environment Canada has unveiled its top ten weather stories of 2020 and the Atlantic region is prominently featured this year.
Climatologist David Phillips says after a frigid spring, summer became scorching with numerous days above 30 degrees across Eastern Canada.
An amazing autumn was next and Phillips notes how November was exceptional with summer-like heat on some days.
It was a record Atlantic hurricane season and Teddy was the worst storm to enter Canadian waters but Phillips says most weren’t very destructive here.
The number one weather story of the year was a severe hailstorm in Calgary in June which is now called “the most expensive hailstorm in history.”
Smoke in B.C. from U.S. wildfires, floods in Alberta, tornadoes in Manitoba and “Snowmageddon” in Newfoundland rounded out the top ten.
