Both Dr. Jennifer Russell and Health Minister Dorothy Shephard strongly urged New Brunswickers to download the COVID Alert app.
Shephard says the app provides a one-time code which alerts other devices through Bluetooth
if they have been exposed to COVID-19.
“The app uses strong measures to protect the privacy and confidentiality of any data it collects. It does not track a user’s location and collect personal identifiable information,” Shephard said.
The health minister again asked everyone to follow the public health guidelines.
Shephard said she understands following the rules isn’t always easy because we miss our family and friends.
She insisted the steps we are taking today will save lives.
On the vaccine front, Shephard said by the end of this week, 7,500 doses of vaccine will have been administered in New Brunswick.
Shephard says more than 1,800 people who got their first dose last month at a clinic in Miramichi will get their second dose this weekend.
“Two more shipments of vaccine totalling 6,600 doses are expected next week,” Shephard said.
Public Health teams are investigating outbreaks at two special care homes: Canterbury Hall at Shannex Riverview and Fundy Manor 2 in Hillsborough.
Contact tracing is underway and PROMT teams are testing all residents and staff.
