Kennebecasis Valley High School is closed Thursday following a confirmed case of COVID-19, according to an email sent to parents.
The Anglophone South School District announced the school closure around 7:40 a.m. Thursday but did not provide any details.
When asked for more details about the closure, a district spokesperson said they are still in the process of notifying families of the reason at this time.
It was not until about an hour after the school closure was announced that parents received an email from the district confirming a case of the virus at the school.
“We are working with Public Health officials to identify any students and school personnel who may have been in contact with the case,” said the email.
“Public Health officials will contact you if your child has been in close contact with the confirmed case and will tell you if your child needs to self-isolate. If you are not contacted by Public Health officials, your child can continue to attend school.”
The Department of Education said students and staff will stay home Thursday for an “operational response day” while contact tracing is carried out.
“School and district staff will follow any advice that may be provided by regional Public Health authorities,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We are committed to protecting the privacy of students and staff as per the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act. As such, we are unable to comment further.”
Meanwhile, the school confirmed to parents late Thursday afternoon that students in the M-Z cohort will return to class Friday.
