A coroner’s inquest has been scheduled into the death of a New Brunswick man fatally shot by police six years ago.
New Brunswick’s chief coroner and a jury will hear evidence to determine the facts surrounding the death of Michel Vienneau.
The 51-year-old Vienneau was shot and killed during an operation by the Bathurst Police Force in January 2015.
The inquest was first announced in November 2017 but no details were released about when or where it would take place.
While the jury can make recommendations to prevent similar death in the future, the coroner does not assign responsibility or blame for a death.
Manslaughter charges against the two officers involved in Vienneau’s death were dropped when a judge ruled the prosecution failed to make its case.
The officers were also cleared of alleged code-of-conduct violations under the Police Act.
The inquest is scheduled to take place in Beresford from April 27 to May 7.
