The province is reporting 17 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, bringing the total of active cases to 328.
That’s down from 331 active cases on Friday, making January 23 the first day of 2021 where the active case number is lower than the day previous.
Saturday also marked the first day the province did not see a record high active case number since January 6.
The new infections were reported in the following zones:
- Five in Zone 1 (Moncton health region)
- One in Zone 2 (Saint John health region)
- 10 in Zone 4 (Edmundston health region)
- One in Zone 5 (Campbellton health region)
There are five patients hospitalized with the virus, including three in the intensive care unit.
An additional 20 cases were also considered recovered on Saturday.
At midnight, Zone 4 will enter the province’s new lockdown phase, as outlined in a briefing Friday afternoon.
Zones 1 to 3 remain in the red phase of pandemic recovery, while Zones 5 to 7 are in the orange phase.
