Two Parkland Saint John residents who previously tested positive for COVID-19 have died, Shannex announced Sunday.
A statement from the organization said one resident died Thursday and the other passed away on Friday.
Both were residents of Lily Court at the Tucker Hall nursing home, where an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak has infected more than two dozen residents and staff.
Shannex said both residents “had tested positive for COVID-19” but did not say whether their deaths were related to the virus.
The last COVID-related death reported by New Brunswick Public Health was on Jan. 19. It involved a resident of Tucker Hall who died “as a result of underlying complications, including COVID-19.”
Public Health has reported four deaths directly related to COVID-19 at Tucker Hall since this latest outbreak began in early January.
Our newsroom has reached out to a spokesperson with the Department of Health for comment.
Shannex said reporting on whether a resident has passed due to COVID-19 is “sometimes complicated because we need to work with multiple healthcare partners.”
“Communicating openly with our residents, families and employees is a priority at Shannex and we understand that the delay in communicating the details may create some confusion, and we apologize for this,” Shannex said in its statement.
No New Cases At Tucker Hall
Shannex also announced Sunday that no new cases of COVID-19 were identified during another round of resident and employee testing at Tucker Hall on Thursday.
A total of 18 residents and 12 employees at the nursing home have tested positive since early January.
As of Sunday, Shannex said the number of active cases consists of two residents and three employees.
Residents and employees of Tucker Hall will be retested again early this week, the organization said.
