Artists of various disciplines will get the chance to be inspired and create art in Kouchibouguac National Park.
The province’s only cross-cultural artist residency is returning for its third year and ArtsLink NB’s programming director Jericho Knopp says anyone can apply for this paid opportunity.
“Basically, if you have anything remotely artistic in terms of your practice, I would say apply. We don’t have any actual requirements as far as whether you are a professional. It will be on a case by case basis.”
She says being able to devote one hundred per cent of your time to art is usually a luxury.
“It’s kind of like this hustle trying to make sure you’re getting paid for things and you don’t really have all of this time, uninterrupted, to devote to your actual art practice. It’s a lot of admin, like replying to emails and trying to market yourself and sell your work.”
Three Anglophone, Francophone, and Indigenous artists will be selected along with a jury’s choice.
“If you have a good idea for a project that you think could really work in the setting of Kouchibouguac National Park, if you really want to be inspired by the Acadian Coast, if you have an idea for something you want to create that can be done in a low tech sort of way, go for it.”
The residency is a collaboration between ArtsLink NB, the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick (AAAPNB), and Mawi’Art: Wabanaki Artist Collective. The artist call is available on the websites of any of the three organizations until Friday, February 26th.
