A mild winter has some New Brunswickers questioning the costs of snow removal. Nearly a month into the new year, residents may have only received service a handful of times due to a lack of snow.
Some companies require a lump sum be paid before winter to secure snow removal through the last week of April.
That has some community members questioning if the price was still fair while others see the year as two sides of the same coin.
“Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. In the past we have had well over the amount we would budget for,” said Lisa Brush, the office manager at D&S Snow Removal Services in Moncton.
Brush added that despite a fairly tame winter the company still has to pay for tractors, repair fees, and a hefty insurance bill.
Not everyone is a critic of the fees paid through a slow winter, some clients see the lack of service as a positive.
“The majority see it as an insurance policy. It’s been paid for but let’s hope they don’t come,” says Brush
While the snow has been spread out so far there are still months left before the amount of work that’s been done can truly be evaluated.
