A small fire at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station early Friday was quickly extinguished, according to NB Power.
Spokesperson Marc Belliveau said an overheated pump sparked the blaze between 4 and 5 a.m.
“The unit was offline for maintenance at the time, and there was no impact to employees, public or the environment,” Belliveau wrote in an email.
Repair work and an investigation have already begun, he said.
Belliveau said response teams from the generating stations were on hand to deal with the fire. Local fire departments were also dispatched to the scene.
