The province’s chief medical officer of health is urging New Brunswickers not to gather for Super Bowl parties this weekend due to COVID-19.
Dr. Jennifer Russell says gatherings should be limited to your immediate household.
“We learned a hard lesson over the holidays about how quickly the virus can be spread through gatherings, especially if people ignore very mild symptoms and don’t get tested.”
Russell says if everyone keeps their gatherings small it will give Public Health a better chance to trace contacts if infections occur.
“You can still cheer for your favourite team. But keep in mind the pandemic is still with us. Nobody wants their Super Bowl party to turn into a ‘superspreader’ event,” she adds.
With the variants of COVID-19 now increasing the risks, Russell adds we need to be more vigilant.
