Dozens of Saint John drivers were ticketed Monday night for not following the city’s overnight on-street parking ban.
Spokesperson Lisa Caissie said 60 tickets were handed out during the temporary ban in the South/Central Peninsula and 30 vehicles were towed for impeding snow clearing operations.
A similar ban following a storm last week saw 74 tickets issued and 19 vehicles towed.
“We remind motorists that it is their responsibility to stay informed and move their vehicles off the street when overnight parking bans are called,” Caissie said in an email.
Caissie said parking ban information is communicated through the city’s website, on its Facebook and Twitter accounts, through local media, and on the automated winter parking ban phone line at 506-658-4040.
She said the city and the Saint John Parking Commission will be conducting a flyer drop on vehicles beginning later this week with information to remind motorists of overnight parking ban rules.
“Parking bans are called for the benefit of our community and are required for crews to be able to work as efficiently and safely as possible to clear streets and push snow back to the curb after a storm,” said Caissie.
