Air travellers in New Brunswick will have another airline to choose from this spring.
Flair Airlines, which offers service in 10 communities, will arrive in Saint John on May 1.
The ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) will offer flights between Saint John and Toronto on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
“Providing affordable air travel within Canada is the first step in restarting travel and tourism, and Flair is uniquely positioned with the efficiencies of our low-cost model,” Stephen Jones, president and CEO, said in a news release Wednesday.
“When non-essential travel returns, Flair will be there to reconnect families and provide the low fares that have long been denied to Canadians.”
In its news release, the Edmonton-based airline said it anticipates tourism and travel to begin restarting in the spring and summer.
Flair had planned to make its inaugural flight from Saint John last June, but it was delayed several times due to COVID-19.
There are currently no commercial flights arriving at or departing from the Saint John Airport. Air Canada indefinitely suspended its last flight at YSJ on Jan. 11 while Porter Airlines and Sunwing suspended service last year.
“We’re delighted that Flair Airlines has selected Saint John as their exclusive New Brunswick destination,” Derrick Stanford, president and CEO of the Saint John Airport, said in the release. “We’re dedicated to finding Saint John travellers the best possible value and options, and with Flair’s unique pricing model almost anyone can afford to fly to more places than ever before.”
In all, Flair plans to add eight new destinations in Canada by August, including Halifax, Charlottetown, Ottawa, and Thunder Bay.
